Sadness

Yesterday afternoon, a friend and classmate of Caitlynne's collapsed after a soccer game at school and he passed away shortly thereafter. We are absolutely heartbroken for the family and still in a state of disbelief. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of losing a child with such a promising future at such a young age.

ISB administration decided to keep the middle school open today and arranged for counselors and other support to be available to help the children process their grief. Christopher and a group of his friends were at the game and he came home sad, shocked and asking questions that I don't have answers to. I really think it is best for the kids to be with their teachers and friends at a time like this. Although it is very sad and there will be many tears, they will be able to talk about him and share their memories which will give them some measure of comfort as they mourn.

What a terrible thing to happen to any parent and also shocking for the kids that watched it happen. I also know a couple that lost their son a couple of years ago, just 18, while playing cricket, he had a heart attack. They have yet to come to grips with it.
